Lapas Rios was built by John and Karen Lewis as a private nature reserve. John and Karen left all their belonging in Minesota to come here, finance and build a small travel resort, surrounded by the last remaining low land rain forest in Costa Rica.

Today the future of this natural reserve is preserved by a conservation easement; the disaster of the spanish Costa Del Sol will not be repeated here!

The Lewis are driven by a vision, and Lapa Rios Ecolodge is a model of Ecotourism project and is featured in many international publications. they received many awards.

The buidings are in harmony with the surrounding beach and forest.

From there you may discover the nearby rainforest: hiking, birds watching; Or the Ocean: Surfing, kayaking...
